We often explore the world of origins but it’s very rare we discuss where common tech symbols came from. Which is surprising considering how often we see and use these symbols. Fortunately, Visual.ly have created a chart that can tell you almost everything you need to know, from where the Bluetooth symbol originated to why ‘@’ is so commonly used. Each symbol comes with it’s own origin story, most of which are a lot more interesting than you’d think. For instance, did you know the Apple command key is inspired by a Swedish symbol indicating a noteworthy attraction in a campground? There may even be some symbols included this chart that you may not have heard of or seen.
